Pozycja Absorptive Capacity and Its Role for the Company Growth and Competitive Advantage: The Case of Frauenthal Automotive Toruń Company(Nowy Sacz School of Business – National-Louis University, 2015) Lis, Andrzej; Sudolska, AgataThe aim of the paper is to study the role of absorptive capacity for the company growth and competitive advantage through open innovations. The case of Frauenthal Automotive Toruń is used to explore how the routines and best practices associated with the firm absorptive capacity contribute to its success. The case study is to validate the thesis that through developing skills to recognize valuable knowledge in the environment, acquire this knowledge, assimilate, transform and develop it companies are able to apply and benefit from open innovations in order to grow and strengthen their competitive advantages. In order to achieve the aim of the paper the following research objectives have been set: (1) to identify the lessons and best practices applied in Frauenthal Automotive Toruń in relation to the company absorptive capacity; (2) to analyze the relationships between the concepts of absorptive capacity and open innovation; (3) to exemplify and discuss the outcomes of the company absorptive capacity in regard to innovations, company growth and competitive advantage.Pozycja Building a Model of Successful Collaborative Learning for Company Innovativeness(Nowy Sacz School of Business – National-Louis University, 2014) Sudolska, Agata; Lis, AndrzejThe aim of the paper is to develop a model of successful collaborative learning for company innovativeness. First of all, the paper explores the issue of inter-firm learning, focusing its attention on collaborative learning. Secondly, inter-firm learning relationships are considered. Thirdly, the ex ante conditions of collaborative learning and the intra-organizational enhancers of inter-firm learning processes are studied. The growing interest of researchers increases the number of publications related to the issue of a learning organization. Nevertheless, so far, the field of the study has not mapped thoroughly, which seems to be a gap in the body of knowledge. Therefore, the aim of the paper is to conduct general research profiling of the studies related to the concept of a learning organization based on the data retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. The key research profiling criteria included in the study are: a publication year, a number of citations, a country/territory, an institution, a source title and an author(s). The study is concluded with the thematic analysis of the most influential papers in the field. The paper is the first step to conduct the comprehensive research profiling of the studies on learning organizations. Further studies will be focused on subject area profiling and full-range topic profiling.Pozycja How to Strengthen Positive Organizational Behaviors Fostering Experiential Learning? The Case of Military Organizations(Nowy Sacz School of Business – National-Louis University, 2012) Lis, AndrzejThe aim of the paper is to study the challenges concerning organizational behaviors crucial for Lessons Learned capabilities in military organizations as well as to indentify the solutions and recommendations to develop and strengthen positive organizational culture, climate and behaviors fostering experiential learning. The attention is focused around positive behaviors recognized by NATO as the key success factors for Lessons Learned capabilities such as: the engagement of leaders, positive mindset, willingness to share information and stakeholder involvement. The contents of the paper are mainly based on the interviews with Lessons Learned experts and practitioners representing both NATO commands, bodies and national Lessons Learned military organizations. (2) How should the employee suggestion system be organized to increase (or build) absorptive capacity? The exploratory case study analysis is applied to answer research questions and achieve the aim of the study. The unit of analysis is constituted by inter-firm and intra-firm learning processes observed in the firm Frauenthal Automotive Toruń (FTO).Pozycja Knowledge Creation and Conversion in Military Organizations: How the SECI Model is Applied Within Armed Forces(Nowy Sacz School of Business – National-Louis University, 2014) Lis, AndrzejThe aim of the paper is to analyze the knowledge creation and conversion processes in military organizations using the SECI model as a framework. First of all, knowledge creation activities in military organizations are identified and categorized. Then, knowledge socialization, externalization, combination and internalization processes are analyzed. The paper studies methods, techniques and tools applied by NATO and the U.S. Army to support the aforementioned processes. As regards the issue of knowledge socialization, counseling, coaching, mentoring and communities of practice are discussed. Lessons Learned systems and After Action Reviews illustrate the military approaches to knowledge externalization. Producing doctrines in the process of operational standardization is presented as a solution used by the military to combine knowledge in order to codify it. For this reason, the aim of the paper is to map trends in the research on the interface between leadership and corporate social responsibility. Topic profiling methodology is applied to scan a wide body of publications in order to identify key topics and research patterns. The data for analysis were retrieved from Scopus database. The paper discusses the following areas: general topic profiling, journals/topics profiling, authors/topics profiling, subject areas/ topics profiling, core references/topics profiling. Firstly, the concept of learning from experience has been discussed from the perspective of military organisations. Then, applying the NATO model, the elements of Lessons Learned capabilities have been enumerated and studied. The case study combines observations, lessons and best practices identified in NATO, the U.S. Army and the Polish Armed Forces. Outlining the theoretical background, the article discusses the nature and scope of military outsourcing. Then the development of military outsourcing market is analysed. The article discusses forces driving the growth of this industry worldwide as well as the U.S. and other NATO countries experiences in that field. The main part of the paper is devoted to emerging military outsourcing market in Poland, its areas and prospects for the future. The article takes into consideration two different perspectives: one of the government and armed forces as buyer and the other of private companies providing their services for military sector as suppliers. The following driving forces have been discussed: the predicted demand for armaments and military equipment on the Polish internal market, possibilities of increasing the military export as well as the influence and challenges connected with the accession of Poland to The Code of Conduct on Defence Procurement of the EU Member States Participating in the European Defence Agency. The analysis is based on the empirical research conducted in defense companies (questionnaires) supported by expert opinions including business, government agencies, scientists and economic journalists. The article discusses also the direction and methods of further scientific research within this area.
